If the developers making Ouya worried about the early reviews the device is getting from the press, they aren't showing it. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a representative for Ouya said that the units they shipped out were never meant for review purposes and were simply for individuals who backed the Kickstarter.
"We will be making Ouya review units available in early to mid-May so that you are able to review the more complete consumer experience and prepare your coverage in time for the June 4th retail launch," said the rep. "To clarify for you–Ouya has sent no review units out to press. Any reviews you have seen online are a result from individuals who received early backer units from supporting our Kickstarter."
The representative said that Ouya's developers are using the preview period to fine-tune the device before it goes to retail.
The Ouya has received a number of poor reviews from sites like The Verge and Engadget, which criticized the device for having a laggy controller and very few games worth playing.
With less than two months left on the clock before it hits the store shelves, we don't think the retail experience is going to differ very much from how it is right now.
