Halo creator Bungie have revealed some new details on the playable classes and races of their upcoming game, Destiny, revealing some unlikey sources of inspiration.
Speaking to GameSpot design director Joe Staten revealed that TV shows great influenced Destiny's development. "I think typically, for the Halo games, we looked at movies," Staten commented, "But really, for this game, we looked at serial television; great dramas like Lost, or The Wire, or Battlestar Galactica,"
"When you're building a world and you want to evolve it over time, it really helps to have an understanding of how you build this longer-form narrative. So for us, that a really interesting new thing we did.
"I think we probably spend more time watching television these days than we do movies and that's definitely influenced the way we think about building our story."
Meanwhile, Eurogamer have been speaking to Bungie about the game's characters and classes.
The three races in game are humans, Awoken and the Exo. Humans live in the last remaining city on Earth which is under the protection of the Traveller, the giant sphere you may have seen in Destiny's concept art.
Awoken, on the other hand, are described as both beautiful and mysterious and were created with vampires and elves in mind. Finally Exo are intended to be "war machines" and were inspired by undead creatures and The Terminator.
The character classes in Destiny are Titans, Hunters and Warlocks.
Titans are the tank characters of the game coming heavily armed and being described as "future soldiers." Hunters have a bounty hunter feel to them and possess a "cool, collected" air. Warlocks are "space wizards with guns."
You can see an example of each of the races below.
A human, in case you couldn't guess.
An Awoken.
And an Exo.
And then there's this…
Destiny is due for release on PS3, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox 720 (obviously, the Xbox 720 version has not yet been announced since the console hasn't even been revealed but it is coming to the system). This will be the first time Bungie have developed a game for PlayStation platforms and the PS4 edition will be coming with exclusive DLC.
