Keeping in mind that today is April Fools' Day Ubisoft have released a teaser trailer for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
The trailer has an 80s science fiction aesthetic and presents itself as if it were a VHS tape. The teaser also points to a website which is designed to replicate what the web might have looked like in the 80s. The site pitches Blood Dragon as a movie from the period and features a tagline reading "The Year is 2007, it is the future."
A synopsis for the Blood Dragon film tells visitors it looks at the story of Sgt. Rex Power Colt, a cybernetic soldier. Cole, a "Mark IV Cyber Commando", is dispatched to the island to retrieve a biological weapon in the aftermath of a devastaing nuclear war which wipes out most of civilisation.
Although the teaser implies Blood Dragon is merely a hoax there is evidence to suggest it might just be the real thing. Earlier this year the Brazilian game classification board listed the game for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. If you select the teaser site's fake shop you will be brought to a list of Xbox Live achievements, notably one references VHS tapes and dragons.
Perhaps the biggest indication yet that Blood Dragon is on the way comes in the form of lead writer Jeffrey Yolahem's comments to Joystiq. "I'm working on something now that will be surprising, I think, when it's announced," he said.
Over on the NeoGAF forms artwork was discovered for the title.
