The news that EA has reportedly ceased the development of "Mirror's Edge 2" shouldn't come as a shock to anyone given the sales of the original "Mirror's Edge," which remained lackluster despite critical acclaim.
A team at DICE showed EA the prototype of the game they were developing, which was subsequently declined according to a report by Eurogamer Sweden.
In the report, EA's Patrick Soderlund was said to have acknowledged that Mirror's Edge didn't meet sales expectations and that the sequel's development has been stopped.
"EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped – involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror's Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity."
