BioWare has produced a retrospective video in which people involved with the initial Mass Effect trilogy talk about their experiences with the game. We get to hear from Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer – the voices of Commander Shepard her/himself – as well as other voice actors, writers, producers, and designers.
“We've accomplished what we wanted to,” says technical director David Falkner, “We told this story that had integrity, and that chapter is now over, and I feel like it is right to move on, right to let go.”
The video features clips from some of the most iconic scenes from the game, as well as glimpses of those moments between characters that are what some fans will remember most fondly. Remember when Shepard activates the Prothean beacon on Eden Prime? Did you romance Garrus, like one of the level designers did, and do you remember the moment when he and Shepard touch their foreheads together? Do you remember everything that Mordin went through?
According to executive producer Casey Hudson, the idea that a company would be able to produce three big games over so many years is incredible.
“If you think about all the games or even studios over this eight years we've been working on this that got cancelled, or studios that got closed, it is a tough industry,” Hudson points out, “To be able to say that you want to finish three games and you're going to try and tell that story, and then to get to the end… and we were able to finish it all. It is pretty amazing, and we're very fortunate to have been able to get to the end and finish the process.”
Are you glad BioWare was able to keep the original trilogy going for as long as it did? Are you excited for the next Mass Effect game?
