Correction: An earlier version of this report stated that Steel Wool's founders are former Pixar staff, all involved continue to work at Pixar.
Five veteran Pixar employees at the Oscar winning studio have moved in to the game industry, establishing Steel Wool Games, whose first title, FlyHunter, is being published by Ripstone this summer.
The studio's founders Sequoia Blankenship, Jonathan Hoffman, Andrew Dayton, Joshua Qualtieri and Jason Topolski bring with them over 60 years of combined experience at Pixar working on titles such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
Commenting on the studio's approach to game art Dayton said: "We have an internal phrase that we use to describe our style: 'Grimsical'. It's our fundamental principle as a company. We create worlds that are funny and whimsical but dipped in gritty tones."
The studio's official website allows users to sign up for a newsletter while the FlyHunter page notes:
"Through back-alleys, shady shenanigans, and blatent extortion we have hustled a way to start working on our first game. That was the easy part. Our team is cranking at break neck pace to release FlyHunter summer 2013!"
While FlyHunter's release platforms have not yet been announced Ripstone has published heavily on Sony's consoles including PS3, PS Vita and PS Mobile.
