Frabjous day! The netherlandic design crew of Vlambeer have finally launched Ridiculous Fishing – A Tale Of Redemption for iOS. You can buy it for $1.99. You should!
But what IS Ridiculous Fishing? It’s a game where you catch fish! Instead of that being the sole extent of your action, though, the activity is cut into thirds. You first cast a lure into the ocean trying to avoid as many fish as possible on your decent. When you reach the end of your line, or hit a fish, you start travelling back up; at that point you need to hit as many fish as you can. Once you’re back at the surface you need to shoot all your collected fish that are now flying in mid-air.
The more fish you catch, the more money you get to upgrade your abilities, changing your gun from a pistol to an uzi and so-on, extending your lure (and turning it into a chainsaw) and replacing your avatar’s clothes.
There’s a great art style that relies entirely on right angles everything in the game is made with 90 degree edges on it and a very soft, lovely colour palette that’s warm when you cast off, but grows darker the further down into the deep you travel.
A cool added feature is the in-game twitter client that’s populated with content from ingame characters. It’s very weird. One of the accounts is run by a bird.
It’s as ridiculous as the name suggests and absoultely worth the totally minimal price tag. Get it for your iOS device!
