Borderlands 2 will soon get a sixth playable character, Polygon reports after seeing a teaser trailer at SXSW (South by Southwest) last Friday. Gearbox showed the teaser after a panel led by Jonathan Hemingway and Matthew Armstrong, and Polygon filmed the video.
We see a figure collapse on the ground before – or so it seems – exploding bloodily. Then we see another figure suffer a similar fate after another deals it a heavy punch. Another bloody scene follows, and then we see a silhouette coming through a large hole that looks as if it was created by the figure's bare hands.
“Deep beneath Pandora,” the text in the video reads in big capital letters, “An experiment has escaped. Bandits beware, a new vault hunter is coming. More mayhem awaits.”
The character in the video is deliberately unclear, but looks like a large, strong figure, probably male. He/she/it looks like a melee character, and Hemingway and Armstrong apparently “lamented Borderlands 2's lack of a melee character – like the original Borderlands' pugilist, Brick.” Polygon also reports that the pair said they liked the stacking mechanics introduced with the newest playable character, the Mechromancer, though they didn't say whether those mechanics would apply to this new character.
We heard that Borderlands 2 would receive another playable character back in December last year, when someone Tweeted at Randy Pitchford to ask if the team was working on one and he replied with a simple, “Yes – we're working on another character.”
Are you still playing Borderlands 2? If not, will you consider picking it up again if they bring in a melee character?
