Development for new Zelda Game in Full Swing, Nintendo Confirms

December 21, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Well that was fast. But not as fast as The Running Man.

Exciting new information on the fate of The Legend of Zelda series has emerged alongside the release of the Breath of the Wild: Master Works 30th Anniversary art book. Series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed in a note that his team is already working on another Zelda title. While there were no further details provided, the confirmation is enough to stir speculation amongst fans as to what form the new adventure will take.

In 2017, Nintendo has enjoyed a successful year thanks to smart marketing and reinventing its image with the boundary-defying Nintendo Switch. Impressive flagship titles (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey), sequels (Splatoon, Bayonetta 3) enhanced ports (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), entering the mobile realm (Super Mario Run), tapping into nostalgic reservoirs (Super NES Classic Edition) and new IPs (Arms) helped drive profits and generate interest. Recent sales figures show the Switch has sold 10 million units within nine months, on par with PlayStation 4 sales momentum during its launch year.

Previous reports from the Wall Street Journal claimed Zelda would be following in Super Mario Run‘s footsteps with a mobile entry out by Q4 2017. While that release schedule seems unlikely now, is Nintendo’s next entry in the Zelda series destined for smartphones? Time knows best.
