A minor drama ensued as a young boy, engrossed in his Sony PSP, walked straight off a platform and onto the subway tracks.
A tragedy was narrowly avoided when his life was saved by the quick thinking of a young Italian policeman, off-duty cop Alessandro Micalizzi, who raced to his rescue and quickly lifted the boy off the tracks just seconds before a train entered the station at Loreto in Milan.
The boy, who has not been named by the media is reported to be unharmed after being inspected by paramedics who rushed to the scene, and suffered only a few minor cuts and bruises.
Speaking to the local Italian press, the hero said of the incident, "'I just reacted with instinct – I saw him go over and he was lying on the track so I just jumped down, grabbed him and carried him to the platform. He was crying and shocked but other than that he was OK."
