We had our suspicions that the follow up to Ubisoft’s Part-Espionage Part-Animal Photography series might have been shelved. We’d heard nothing about it really since series creator Michel Ancel took a break to make Rayman Origins and the upcoming Legends. Thanks to Kotaku and Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot we’re now aware that the game’s still being worked on, but our lack of a formal an update from the company is due to an interest in assuring the next time we hear about it there’ll be more substantial information to work with:
"I don't give comments anymore on BG&E2, because I think… the next time we communicate we have to have something new."
That’s a heartening statement to hear, for fans who’ve been clamering for more on the game’s release since brief teaser video was doled out years ago and tiny cinematics were leaked
The first game wasn’t a huge sales monster. So few copies were initially sold that it was even once given out as a value add with a brand of canadian cheese. It’s remained a cult classic ever since, though, and reached out to a newer audience with an HD update in 2011.
We can hope that this means a display at E3, but it’s more likely that we’ll see more about this after Rayman Legends has been released (a few months later than expected) and the marketing cycle for it concludes. With any luck we’ll be playing Beyond Good And Evil 2 within the next 2 years.
