Usually when a Capcom game is cancelled the publisher will do everything in their power to remove it from the face of the earth.
Don’t push them. You don’t want to underestimate Capcom’s commitment to not putting games out. They’ve gone as far as to set ablaze any projects currently ongoing in the same franchise as the thing they cancelled before and they’re just unstable enough to try it again.
It’s with some rare delight that Eurogamer report a fan mod has finished off the rest of the work on a Resident Evil sequel that had previously been locked away in a cupboard instead of hitting store shelves.
The build isn’t perfect yet and is still being tweeked, but this is a playable version of what’s being referred to as “Resident Evil 1.5”.
Fans have translated the text over from the original japanese and fixed up necessary gamebreaking bugs, but there are massive flaws which still remain. It’s out now in this nearly completed form because another group of modders was attempting to release their work for profit. To head them off at the pass, so as not to insult the work of the modders who don’t stand to profit or Capcom who have yet to file any kind of injunction, this version has been released early and will be continually updated.
Hopefully this project isn’t affected by attempts to retain rights and is treated with the same respect that Capcom is known for regarding community efforts. We’ve approached them for comment.
