It appears that the excitement surrounding today’s earlier announcement of Destiny might be dampened by lackluster screenshots that have been produced over the past few hours.
The screens in question show various models of what we assume are NPCs and different landscapes. That said, some of the pictures are so muddled it can be hard to tell at some times. Textures look completely flat, and while you might be able to chalk it up to Bungie’s notorious motion blur in some of these cases, there’s just no way so much of this can go unnoticed.
The one defense that can be brought up is that the game still has a long time until it’s released. The screenshots clearly state “WORK_IN_PROGRESS,” and we get that. It’s just that when screenshots get leaked like this, they are never far off from what the final product looks like. The size and expanse of this game are quite large, though and maybe this is why we are seeing such poor results.
It’s too early to tell what exactly will happen from here on out in the development process, but it may actually prove to be a good thing that these screenshots were leaked. There’s no excuse for bad development this late in the generation, especially when the next Xbox and Playstation 4 are right around the corner. While we are almost positive Bungie can pull Destiny off with flying colors, what has been shown isn’t what we were expecting from a game with so much hype behind it.
