A few days ago, it was revealed that The Last of Us would be seeing a delay. A recent post on the Playstation Blog tells us a number of things, but nothing more so than Naughty Dog’s high hopes for this game. Creative Director at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, took some time to relegate his feelings to the written word.
Though Naughty Dog has never been shy about discussing their accomplishments, their excitement for the new intellectual property is certainly very high.
“The Last of Us is an ambitious project. In many ways it may be Naughty Dog's most ambitious project to date – brand new universe and cast of characters, brand new tech, brand new genre, not to mention it's easily the longest campaign Naughty Dog has ever made.”
All of this lead to a delay for the game, which is currently seeing a June 14 release date. This isn't far behind the original date, which is a welcome change to the industry standard of pushing games back for months at a time.
“As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realize just how massive Joel and Ellie's journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards."
I'm certain that gamers will be fine with a short delay if it means that the game sees that much more polish. The Last of Us hasn't even hit the media's hands yet and is being touted as 2013 Game of the Year by many, so Naughty Dog has a lot of expectations to meet.
