Good job, Introversion! You've cracked $1 Million before your game's even properly out!
Prison Architect's currently in a pre-release alpha state that customers can play as development continues. From the first trailer the small team were quick to inform their potential audience that the thing's still charmingly broken and not nearly feature complete, but it offers a decent extended glimpse at what the game will eventually amount to when it takes a final shape.
It's a satire of the for-profit prison industry that intends to shed light on the nature of incarceration, whether or not the grim tone of the subject matter matches the visual style is up for debate, but the intent is clear. It asks questions about the death penalty and the rights of prisoners without ever answering them, leaving the player to discover their own thoughts through experiencing it in a form they otherwise likely wouldn't.
Different tiers of donations offer perks as simple as a copy of the game, having your name and face immortalised as one of the prisoners and at one point -though now fully sold out- spend $6000 to decide on the design and statistics for one of the game's warden characters
The game doesn't have a proper release date, in fact the dev team don't expect it to be done for a while, so this money might tide them over for a while. Hopefully it doesn't take to long to become feature complete, but paying for an incomplete version is better than no version at all.
