Bungie has confirmed that its upcoming game, due to replace Halo as the company's core franchise, will be called Destiny, and that more details will arrive soon. The game was shrouded in secrecy until some details were leaked in November last year, but just as Bungie was light-hearted in its response then – confirming the leak and posting a screenshot on its website – it is tackling the reveal with the same characteristic humour.
The news actually comes in another “Bungie Community Theatre” video, like that in which “DeeJ” read a letter from a fan with a broken copy of Halo 4 and promised to send him a new copy despite the fact Bungie didn't make the game. In this video, “Act Two”, DeeJ reads another letter, this one from a fan who just wants to talk about how much he loves Halo, before pointing out that while Bungie doesn't make Halo anymore, the team has been working “under the cover of darkness” for years on “an entirely new universe” that we'll get to explore “very soon”, though they're not ready “to lift that curtain just yet”.
At this point, of course, we get a purr from the tiger that lounges beside DeeJ's armchair, and the subtitles helpfully inform us that the animal is saying, “Everyone knows it's called “DESTINY,” bro.” Finally, we're told to keep an eye on www.bungie.net for news, which sounds like a pretty sensible idea. You excited, bro?
