Activision has a new teaser trailer for Skylanders Swap Force that shows some of the 256 combinations of Skylander parts that players will be able to create. The game allows you to take your new Skylander figurine apart at the waist and attach a different figurine's lower half to create a combination that will work differently in the game.
For example, Blast Zone's metallic upper body can be placed on Wash Buckler's tentacles to create a character that can throw bombs before making a quick getaway. All of the new characters seem to have two names, so that the combinations are named by taking the first name from one and the second name from the other. In this case, we end up with Blast Buckler.
YouTube user OneOfSwords also has a video filmed at a Skylanders Swap Force Press Event, which includes some in-game footage as well as a load of business chat from the Activision CEO. We get to see a cutscene that hints at some of the perils the Skylanders will face in the new game, and some actual gameplay. We're reassured that all figurines from the previous two games will be compatible, and figurines will carry over their levels and upgrades too. We also get a glimpse of the new graphics engine, which really does make the game and characters look much more impressive. Finally, we get a look at the new characters and how the various combinations work in the game.
If you're interested in this new Skylanders game and the kinds of characters you'll get to collect, set aside some time to watch the video.
