THQ and Dreamworks have signed a multi-year, multi-property licensing deal which is set to make THQ the exclusive publisher and developer of all future Dreamworks movie to game adaptations. So you can expect upcoming DreamWorks pictures Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom, Puss In Boots and CG animated TV show, The Penguins of Madagascar to be developed and published by THQ.
DreamWorks Head of Worldwide Consumer Products, Kerry Phelan, said in a statement:
We are pleased to expand our relationship with THQ and continue to be impressed by their focus on the kids and family videogame business. We look forward to extending the reach of our feature films and The Penguins of Madagascar TV series into a broad line of games and believe THQ will do a great job of maximizing our properties for family audiences.
With the announcement of this deal, THQ seems to be trying to revamp it’s portfolio by focusing on the kids and family videogame business. THQ’s internally created franchises include Saints Row, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Red Faction, MX vx. ATV, Company of Heroes and others. The company also holds exclusive, long-term licensing agreements with leading sports and entertainment content creators including World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Games Workshop (Warhammer 40,000), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Nickelodeon and Disney-Pixar.
