Last year, we reported that Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, X-Men: First Class), has signed on to co-produce and star in the film adaptation of Ubisoft's hit franchise Assassin's Creed.
Now, not only do New Regency and Ubisoft have a star, but they also have a writer, too.
British playwright Michael Lesslie will adapt the game series' transition to the big screen. While Lesslie has no movie on his credentials yet, he has written several short films. His most recent work, Prince of Denmark, was performed at the National Theatre last year.
Joining Fassbender on producing duties is Conor McCaughan, Assassin's Creed's movie debut currently has no release window yet, but the premise revolves around a bartender who is "captured by a secret corporation and sent back in time to relive the memories of his ancestors — all of them assassins — and retrieve ancient artifacts."
Currently, there's still no director attached to the film and both Ubisoft and New Regency are looking for additional producers.
So, it seems Ubisoft is really bent on making an Assassin's Creed movie. Question is, will it follow your standard game-to-movie translation (read: crappy) or will it tread new ground?
What would you want to see in an Assassin's Creed movie and will you even give it a watch?
