Sony has tasked "Hanna" co-writer Seth Lochhead to pen the film adaptation of its now-considered classic PS2 game Shadow of the Colossus.
Back in 2009, Justin Marks wrote an early draft of the script, but it's unknown now whether Lochhead will use that as a starting point or write a new one altogether. Tapped to direct the film adaptation is "Chronicle" director Josh Trank, who came onboard the project last year.
For those not familiar with Shadow of the Colossus' story, it involves a young man named Wander, who travels the a forsaken world with his horse Argo. In the game, he must slay 16 colossal entities to resurrect his fallen love. It is, of course, not as cut-and-dry as that, but there's a few twists and turns that make the story one of the most-engaging I've ever played on any platform ever.
While no star has been chosen yet, we do know that Kevin Misher is producing, while Misher Films' Andy Berman and Kevin Chang are overseeing the project.
As expected, there's no scheduled theatre date for now. But let's hope Shadow of the Colossus doesn't fall victim to the dreaded game-to-movie curse. I mean, with Team ICO's in-development game The Last Guardian still in Limbo, Team ICO needs all the victories it can get.
Are you excited to see Wander and the colossi on the silver-screen or should Sony leave well enough alone and not ruin our memory of the game?
