While id Software and Bethesda has been rather mum on DOOM 4, could the game be under development now for next-gen platforms?
This scenario crossed the minds of people when id Software Lead Programmer Brian Harris tweeted that once he gets back to the studio, he'll help "port the big project to new platforms."
Here's the full tweet:
Currently home taking care of a new baby girl…When I get back, I’ll help port the big project to new platforms.
Now, here's where things get tricky, presently, Harris' Twitter account has been deleted for some reason and all we have now are secondhand info from other sources. Also, Harris never exactly mentioned "DOOM 4" or next-gen, but since he just finished work on DOOM 3 BFG Edition, it's not much of a stretch to think that they're now working on DOOM 4.
Of course, there's also a chance that he's referring to RAGE and "new platforms" mean the Wii U. But to be honest, I highly doubt that's plausible given Bethesda's reluctance in developing for Nintendo's platform.
Aside from this "info," all we know regarding DOOM 4 is that the screens allegedly leaked last year are fake. But if you think about it, since we're near the end of this generation's console cycle, and I'm fairly certain id Software isn't killing off the DOOM franchise anytime soon, the chances of DOOM 4 appearing on the PS4 and Xbox 720 are pretty high.
Do you agree or do you think DOOM 4 will make a surprise appearance for the PS3, Xbox 360 and maybe even the Wii U?
