In what GiantBomb's Alex Navarro called "the worst goddamn video game trailer" he had seen in a long time, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct's "trailer" yesterday disappointed and yet fooled many. One of Activision’s community managers was quick to release a statement today stating that the video was a fan-made trailer using IGN video preview footage.
The trailer appeared on Activision community manager Dan Amrich's blog yesterday, who today apologized for posting the video hastily while he was on vacation. He did point out that a few other prominent gaming journalists and outlets were also fooled, but still apologized, saying he "felt terrible all day for being part of the misinformation and the constant problem of Unreliable Information Found on the Internet."
Amrich said the incident was embarrassing for him personally and professionally, citing his blog's main purpose for existing was for clarifying the truth.
Not only do I want to apologize, but please know that it’s mistakes like this that remind me how important my process for information verification really is, and my diligence batteries are hereby recharged.Looking like a big idiot is a colossal motivator.
The video itself (which even had its own Facebook page) has since been deleted from Youtube along with the uploader account, after many comments spoke out on how terrible they believed it was.
