The LEGO Group Announces New Property, Legends of Chima

January 2, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Three games are currently due to be set in Chima

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and the LEGO Group have announced the next LEGO title, and it comes with a twist. LEGO Legends of Chima is a single, brand-new property that will be launched in three separate games, each with a different experience.

LEGO Legends of Chima is the name of a whole range of new LEGO products that will include both actual construction sets and things like TV content. According to the press release, it represents “a fantasy adventure set in land inhabited by different magical animal tribes”, with traditional themes of good vs evil, friends and family, etc.

One of the games is already available on LEGO.com, and will be available on iOS from tomorrow (January 3rd). LEGO Legends of Chima: Speedorz is, predictably, a racing mini-game. Players race through locations from the world of Chima, their opponents famous characters from the property, and will do things like collect studs and customise characters.

LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey will be coming to the 3DS and Vita in the summer of this year, and the DS in the fall. This adventure will see players lead a warrior called Laval, alongside his allies, into a fight for justice.

The last of the three, LEGO Legends of Chima Online, will be a free-to-play game designed to provide a safe online environment for kids, in which players will build and customise their own kingdom, explore, and carry out missions to help Laval (presumably the protagonist in LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey).

How do you feel about the idea of a new LEGO property? Do you think they should stick to making games based on other people's properties, or are you confident in their abilities?
