Come this Christmas morning, many Nintendo fans will find a brand new, Wii U under the tree. And no doubt, after unboxing their new toy and hooking the thing up to their television sets, there will be much excitement when the power button is switched. But that good feeling will immediately dissipate after it is discovered that a mandatory system update must be installed.
Which, as is takes forever, but come Tuesday morning, when a TON of new Wii U owners will be doing the same exact thing, that wait will become a nightmare. A simple, unpleasant fact that Nintendo themselves is all too aware of.
Hence the advice they just gave everyone, via Twitter:
Perform system updates before wrapping so it’s good to go as soon as it’s opened!
Needless to say, this has given many a golden opportunity for people to point and laugh at Nintendo once again:

Ugh, you see, that's basically admitting that there's a 'huge' issue right there.
One critical point that regularly comes up, and it's valid, is how the magic of opening something brand new on Christmas morning is immediately undercut. Again, Nintendo's advice is sound, yet also an unfortunate reminder of fumbled the new console's launch has been.
