‘Halo 4’ Players Are Getting Banned For Crimson Map Pack Glitch, 343 is Investigating

December 17, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

A good number of players are reporting that they’ve been banned for playing the Crimson Map Pack playlist for Halo 4.

Halo 4's first and latest DLC, Crimson Map Pack, faced a number of issues upon release. For starters, it was available to download for free for a short period of time as someone at Microsoft had apparently forgotten to set a price for the DLC. It should only be free for anyone who purchased the Limited Edition of Halo 4, or the War Games Season Pass.

Microsoft acknowledged the problem through its Xbox Support Twitter account, stating that anyone who picked it up for free would have it without any charge of consequence for Microsoft's mistake. "If you can grab it, it's yours," read the tweet.

That being said, a number of users are now finding themselves in trouble for doing exactly that. A number of NeoGAF posters have popped into this thread to complain that they are being wrongfully banned by Microsoft for downloading the DLC while it was available for free. The ban only impacts Halo 4's online features and nothing else.

One user complained that he was banned for playing the Crimson Map Pack playlist in split-screen, while others on the Halo 4 Waypoint forums are reporting that they've been banned without knowing why.

343 Industries has since issued a statement to say that the bans are not intentional and that they're looking into the issue.

"We are not permanently banning players for previewing or purchasing the Crimson Map Pack. We are currently investigating the recent reports of permanent matchmaking bans.

"We will provide further updates tomorrow. Thank you for your patience."
