While THQ's woes still aren't behind them, there's still some good news to be had for the beleaguered publisher and some of its franchises. In this instance, we're talking about Saints Row: The Third.
According to THQ president Jason Rubin, Saints Row: The Third has been played by 5.5 million people already. And what's even more impressive here is that the figure does not even factor in the Humble Bundle THQ pack that included Saints Row: The Third. Here's the full tweet from Jason Rubin.
5.5 million people (pre Humble Bundle) can't be wrong. Saints Row was the hit nobody realized was a hit!
Keep in mind that we have no clue for now if this means it has now sold or shipped 5.5 million players; or if THQ has its own basis for the data. As of April earlier this year, Saints Row: The Third has moved past the four million units shipped milestone. While there is the possibility that it moved more than a million units in the past few months, we can't say for sure until THQ releases their next fiscal report.
It's no secret that Saints Row 4 is being developed by Volition and with the third game in the franchise now having served more than five million people, chances are there will be more Saints Row games in THQ's future — assuming it lasts that long, of course.
Are you one of the 5.5 million people who have played Saints Row: The Third? If so, what do you make of it? Can it stand toe-to-toe with Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5 when it hits next year?
