Russell Simmons is a hip hop business magnate, one who has launched (among other things) a record label, clothing line, and stand up comedy show, all to great success. So why not make video games next, right? That's what he hopes to do, via GreenROKS Ventures.
According to Polygon, the company's first offerings is a series of preteen and teen focused mobile games titled Mission G-ROK in the spring of next year. At the center of it all will be G-ROK, an eleven-year-old boy with musical talents that must save the world from some vile evil force.
The aim of the games is to "allow kids to exercise their creative muscles by combining storytelling, music, math and science" according to Simmons. GreenROKS Ventures' primary goal is to create educational software that primarily deals with health, environment and social issues.
Initial plans call for games for smart phones and tablets, but eventually will expand to include webisodes, television programming, and even the theater.
