Just last month, TIME magazine listed what they consider to be the top 100 games in each era. Now, they're at it again but this time, it's just for 2012.
You can read up on each "winner" and why the publication chose them here, but if you don't want to read each entry in a new page, we've compiled the list below for an easier read.
So, without further delay, here are the games TIME considers to be the best in 2012.
10. Torchlight 2
9. Halo 4
8. LittleBigPlanet
7. The Last Story
6. Papo & Yo
5. Assassin's Creed III
4. Dishonored
3. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
2. Xenoblade Chronicles
1. Guild Wars 2
I admit, I was quite surprised at their choices. There's no Mass Effect 3, no The Walking Dead: The Game or even Journey, but there is LittleBigPlanet for the PS Vita, though, and Papo & Yo's there, too.
Also of note, there is no Nintendo game on the list. Yeah, Xenoblade Chronicles was released on the Wii, but I mean, one that was made entirely by Nintendo. Sony has two entries in LBP and Papo & Yo, while Microsoft has Master Chief placed on number 9. I don't think I've ever encountered a "best of" list without a Nintendo-developed game in recent memory. Then again, Nintendo didn't exactly release a lot of games this year, no?
While lists like these are almost-always subjective, do you agree that games like Dishonored and XCOM are better than Mass Effect 3 or any of the other big games released this year? Do you agree with the list overall? If not, what's your top 10 games of 2012 now that the year is beginning to wind down?
