The Kickstarter-funded cyberpunk role-playing game, Shadowrun Returns, has been delayed. Its developers at Harebrained Schemes LLC announced that the studio has opted to delay the game, originally slated for a January 2013 release, to sometime between May and June next year. The studio says that the delay will allow them to add some much-needed polish to the title before pushing it out to gamers.
The project successfully acquired over $1.8 million in funding in April this year, surpassing its initial funding goal of $400,000 by over four times the amount. The game's much larger budget will allow its developers to put out the game on the PC and Mac in addition to versions for the iOS and Android platforms.
"As we announced a few months ago, we've backed off our original delivery date of January 2013. It might've worked for the scope of the game we originally envisioned but as our ambitions (read that "features list") grew, so did the time we needed to deliver!
"Plus, we made a big move from our original top down camera to an isometric point of view and that took serious R&D time. Right now, according to our estimates, we're looking at May or June."
Regardless of the delay, we're happy to see that the game's development is moving smoothly along. It's better that the developers delay it for a couple of months than release an unpolished game.
