Following our post regarding EA not wanting DICE to be a "Battlefield factory," it seems former DICE executive producer Benjamin Cousins has outed the game's existence.
Cousins, who left EA for ngmoco Sweden tweeted that it's "general knowledge" in the Stockholm development scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is under development at the studio.
It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE
While Cousins is not with DICE anymore, chances are high that he knows some of the inner projects the studio's been working on before they're ready to be announced by EA. Of course, it's no secret that EA and DICE want to make Mirror's Edge 2. So hearing this just reaffirms what we all suspect all along — that DICE is indeed working on Mirror's Edge 2.
In saying all that, there is a chance that this could all be bunk. Stefan Boberg, part of DICE's staff that works on Frostbite 2, tweeted the following — and while it's not directed at Cousins per se, we know Boberg is talking about the former exec.
Never trust a man who badmouths and talks down all his ex-employers…but still attempts to gain credibility by association #nohire
One thing you'll notice is that Boberg never actually refutes Cousins' claims. Going on the assumption what Cousins said was true, seeing as most of EA's games are being made on Frostbite 2, it's logical to expect that DICE's own franchise use it, too, no? The bigger question here should be: when and which platform will Mirror's Edge 2 appear in? Seeing as this console generation is almost over, I'd say it's headed to the PS4 and Xbox 720, no? But that doesn't mean EA can't pull a rabbit out of its hat at the last minute and reveal Faith's next adventure at next year's E3.
Do you believe Cousins' claims that Mirror's Edge 2's development is "general knowledge" in Sweden or is he just causing problems for his former employers? Also, what do you want to see in Mirror's Edge 2?
