You’ve probably been hearing about bricked Wii U owners, people who either lost Internet connection, power or some other unfortunate incident that caused them to lose connectivity while their Wii U was updating its large firmware update. To add to their frustration, Nintendo has announced that they cannot fix the problem remotely and that users will have to send their consoles directly to Nintendo to have them repair it.
“The system files are fragile during the update process,” the customer service agent told me. “If something goes wrong, it will leave the console bricked. You’ll have to send it to us.”
You may be wondering why this seems to be such an issue. I mean, plenty of electronic devices have day one updates? Well, some people are pointing to the 1 GB patch. It’s sizable enough that it takes about an hour or more to download and install, thus leaving the opportunity for internet and power hiccups…thus heightening the opportunity for “bricking” your system.
Still though, one can’t blame the software or the hardware for this one, so much as sub-optimal planning on Nintendo’s part and unlucky accidents on player’s parts. If you’re one of the unfortunates that has experienced a bricked console, call 1.888. 229.3770 or go online at support.nintendo.com.
