While the Game of the Year awards aren't expected to hit until next month, it seems Blizzard already has one notch under its belt. Mike Morhaime, the CEO of Blizzard, just won the "National Entrepreneur of the Year" award from Ernst & Young.
Ernst & Young states its award, "encourages entrepreneurial activity and recognizes leaders and visionaries who demonstrate innovation, financial success and personal commitment as they create and build world-class businesses"
For Morhaime, Ernst & Young mentions that he's honored for "his commitment to a higher standard of quality that has propelled Blizzard Entertainment to the pinnacle of the gaming industry and positioned the company as an internationally recognized leader in interactive entertainment."
The award-giving body also credits Morhaime's unique studio culture over at Blizzard where "every voice matters." And they add, "By including the development teams in the decision making process, the company is able to foster an environment where developers are extremely passionate and motivated in their work. The development team seeks feedback from employees throughout the company, making the development of a game at Blizzard completely interactive."
Congrats, Morhaime! Hopefully, this means more games released in a shorter amount of development time, no? Do you agree with Ernst & Young? Can you think of another entrepreneur in videogames that deserves the award more?
