As noted a few days ago, Xbox World, a magazine for fans of Microsoft's console in he UK, will be ceasing publication very soon. But they seem intent on going out with a bang, because as ComputerAndVideoGames reports, the next to last issue has what they claim is the inside track on the next-gen Xbox. And it's fairly compelling info.
For starters, the name of the new machine will be just Xbox. That's it. Seems a bit odd, but given that Xbox 720 is a tad bit too obvious and anything else might be too confusing, simply going with the handle that everyone uses anyway is not the worst idea in the world.
Moving on, it was ship with a quad-core processor and eight gigs of ram, plus the next version of Kinect. That all sounds reasonable, even expected, but there will also be some kind of head-mounted augmented reality device that will also be supported.
Now here's the part that will make most everyone go "okay, whatever": it will also supposed run Blu-ray. Which seems hard to swallow given that it's Sony tech. Why can't those who fabricate rumors come up with something else?
After all, the Wii U has its own proprietary disc format that's far larger than normal DVDs, and awfully close to what Blu-ray discs can hold. It would be far more plausible to simply state that MS is resurrecting the HD-DVD standard for their own internal purposes.
Unless there's some truth is such speculation after-all? Since everyone has been saying so…
