Speaking to Edge Online, EA Montreal General Manager Alain Tascan announced his studio has decided to move away from developing Wii titles in favor of more Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 games as part of the EA Games label – is to refocus the studio on “action titles and HD-quality products”.
“The Wii market is a little bit unpredictable these days,” said Tascan, “We are going to focus on big, blockbuster-type titles. It doesn’t mean that we are going to abandon the Wii, but as a studio we want to be ready for new challenges.”
Since only Nintendo titles sell well on the Wii this seems to us like a fair decision on their part. EA also recently laid off around 1500 employees and closed down Pandemic Studios as cost cutting measures to reduce it’s losses.
