United Front Games' sandbox action game has now shipped 1.5 million units to date. This figure was revealed by Square Enix as part of its financial earnings report for the six-month period ended on September 30.
While that helped Square Enix's net sales rise 6.2 percent to 61,05 million yen, it's operating income fell from 7.3 million yen last year to an operating loss this year of 6.2 million yen. Forecasts for the full year ending in March 2013 for net sales increased 150 million yen, but the company expects a 30 percent decrease in operating income from 7.5 million yen and a 42.2 percent drop in net income to 3.5 million yen.
Sleeping Dogs, which was originally titled True Crime: Hong Kong, was bought by Square from previous publisher Activision. It was released in August of this year to generally favorable reviews.
While things could be better for the house of Final Fantasy, I'm guessing the publisher expects IO Interactive's Hitman: Absolution to net them a pretty penny in time for their next earnings report.
Are you one of the 1.5 million people who've played Sleeping Dogs? Do you think it's worth it for Square to pursue a sequel or should they move on to something else?
Thanks, MCV
