Could Raven Software be working on a next-gen first-person shooter? While the studio's last retail title (Singularity) was released back in 2010, Activision has kept Raven busy by creating assets and helping out in Call of Duty's map packs.
It seems now the studio is developing a next-gen title and it could even be a first-person shooter. Details has been unearthed in the studio's job ads on their own site. According to the postings, Raven is looking for a Senior Environment Artist that "has proven experience creating environments from concept to final for an exciting next generation title;" and another one for an Animation Director "to join an established team at work on a first-person shooter."
Seeing as the ad for the Animation Director starts with "developer of numerous award-winning games, including contributions to the blockbuster Call of Duty series," and the words, "established team at work on an FPS," I think it's easy to assume that this points to a next-gen Call of Duty title.
Of course, there's the chance that both positions are for one game title; but we can't be sure for now. Even if Raven has no scheduled games for release in the forseeable future, they are tapped to once again work on Call of Duty DLC. Aside from Raven, Activision has Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, Beachhead Studio (Call of Duty Elite) and Treyarch working on Call of Duty development.
Does this mean Raven will be releasing a new IP once the PS4 and Xbox 720 hits homes? We can't say for certain, but a studio can't just keep making map packs throughout their existence…or at least I think they can't.
Just yesterday, we reported on how Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick commented that next-gen game development might be cheaper and easier to produce. If that rings true, maybe Activision is risking that smaller amount to let Raven do their own thing, no?
Do you think Raven Software is making a next-gen FPS or are they just helping out with Activision's next-gen Call of Duty games?
