While Assassin's Creed 3's release is but a few days away, the game's "Erudito Packs" have already made their way online onto the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE which reveals that micro-transactions will be coming to the franchise.
"Erudito" is a part of Assassin's Creed story as someone (or a group of people) going against Abstergo Industries. I take it we'll know more about this in Assassin's Creed 3 given the packs' name.
Here's the pack denominations and their corresponding amounts:
- 20 Erudito Pack = 80 MSP ($1 USD)
- 50 Erudito Pack = 160 MSP ($2 USD)
- 155 Erudito Pack = 400 MSP ($5 USD)
- 380 Erudito Pack = 800 MSP ($10 USD)
- 925 Erudito Pack = 1600 MSP ($20 USD)
Ubisoft has not revealed the official details regarding the pack; although there is a Facebook game called Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy which tied in to retailer GameStop. People who "liked" GameStop on Facebook (promo is over) would receive an Erudito Network which would give the player more XP and other stuff in-game.
Currently, it's unknown so far what these "Erudito" Packs are for. If I had to wager a guess, I'd say they're for Assassin's Creed 3's multiplayer. If you need a comparison, I'd say take a look at Mass Effect 3 and its booster pack system. Although, the most expensive Erudito Pack, which is priced at $20, makes me think that this could be for the single-player, too.
Unless Ubisoft has somehow thought of a content for mulitplayer that's good enough that people will justify spending $20 on it, I just don't see people biting at this price point.
Is this the start of something ominous for console games or is this a welcome change in your book?
