Fans are usually pretty nervous about any incarnations of their favorite games. Books, comic books, animated films, live action films…Pretty much just the thought of games turning films makes most gamers cringe. With good reason. Paragon Lost– despite focusing on the events that occur around the time of Mass Effect 2 on Mass Effect 3 comrade James Vega– hasn't escaped that skepticism. If you're curious check out the sneak peek below.
The trailer shows us James Vega's captain getting attacked by a varren as they land on their planet, effectively putting the soldier in charge. They are under attack by Krogan and Vorcha forces that appear to be the Blood Pack though it isn't explained why they are attacking the Alliance soldiers.
As for my own views of the sneak peek, to be honest, the Krogan look a little disappointing and the writing seems a bit iffy (read: borderline cheesy). However I think that the way they captured the in-game effects during combat in the actual animation are pretty cool as you can recognize attacks from in-game. As for the actual combat, well, it seems… a little bit over exaggerated from the more realistic take of the games. The animation is also pretty unimpressive, falling somewhere between a boring anime style mixed with Western animations.
There's lots of violence, blood and gore to be had though I sort of wonder where the latter part was during the Mass Effect series. It could be worse however, though I can't tell if it's truly worth a look just yet. We may brave the movie for you to let you know just how true to the Mass Effect series it is when it releases on December 28th.
