GameStop is a behemoth video game retail store that’s been around for years. However, this year the company has announced that they will be closing at least 150 store locations. This is a rather big amount that will account to anywhere between 2-3% of total retail stores for the company.
The announcement has since been making its waves around online stating that your local GameStop may close down especially if the company finds your particular store to be in a non-productive area.
According to a report made by USA Today, the GameStop company has revealed that they saw a decline in hardware sales of 29.1% and software sales fell 19.3% for the quarter.
One of the reasons GameStop accounts for the fall in sales is due to aggressive video game promotions from other retailers, especially during the holiday season. Now to keep ahead, the video game retail giant will be losing a few locations, but it will also add others select stores in certain areas.
It seems that the company will be adding a total of sixty-five technology branded stores along with thirty-five collectible stores. It’s not stated just when these locations will be opening up nor did the company alert where we may find them.
A good guess is that we might not see these stores pop up near the closed down locations which were killed off due to not turning much of a profit for the company to begin with.
