Ready your firearms! In this list we’re going to highlight some of the best upcoming shooters of 2025. These games all feature a firearm component and we’re hopeful they all deliver in a big way!
#36 Killing Floor 3
In Killing Floor 3, the whole point is seriously about just blowing up a bunch of monsters to “save the world.” Will you really save the world? It doesn’t really matter, as it’s all about taking out untold waves of monsters and smiling as you do it. It’s the simple things in life that make you happy, you know?
Furthermore, this is a co-op title, so you’ll have the chance to take on all sorts of monsters with friends watching your back, making the experience even more awesome.
#35 Delta Force
While we’ve shown you lots of fantastical and even comedic shooters, it should be noted that some try and play by the “rules of the real world” more times than not. Many people love that because it makes them feel like real soldiers and operators.
Delta Force is one such game that will let players “load up” and get out onto the battlefield with friends and allies to take on dangerous forces. The game is available for sign-up now, and when it drops, you’ll have numerous options and missions to participate in.
Besides squad combat, you can get into vehicles and blow stuff up.
#34 Unrecord
You might think that by this point, we can’t have any “unique takes” on the shooting genre left to show off, but you’d be wrong. Unrecord is a fascinating and story-driven FPS that has you taking the perspective of an officer through his body cam.
The game will change its narrative based on how you handle each case. You’ll be given decisions on what to do, and you must react quickly to see how things progress. As you do, the game will unveil new twists, characters, and options.
What kind of officer will you be by the end? Turn on your camera and find out.
#33 Luna Abyss
So picture this: humanity has a “mimic moon” on which it found an odd structure. You are sent there to get remnants of a lost colony and any technology that is within. Why you? Because you’re a prisoner, and this is part of your sentence.
The problem? Well, the megastructure is deep, and there is an intelligence calling out to you, asking you to go deeper and to “learn the truth” about what’s going on while also possibly unleashing all that’s trapped within.
This isn’t a game to play if you don’t want your head screwed with, so consider this your warning!
#32 NEO BERLIN 2087
There are some days when you just want to do the job and move on. But sometimes, the job throws something at you that you can’t expect, leading you to learn that the job isn’t what it was supposed to be. In NEO BERLIN 2087, you’ll play a detective who is trying to find the killer of his chief.
There are multiple problems with that plan, though. First, the only clue is the chief’s daughter, and she’s missing. Second, when you do find her, you’ll discover a vast conspiracy trying to take you two out. And finally, the city itself isn’t safe, and you’ll need to work your way through and outside it just to stay alive.
#31 Ferocious
Look, we get it. There are plenty of things you’ve possibly dreamed about shooting at in the fantastical sense, but you’ll never get the chance because they’re not around! You know, like dinosaurs. But in games like Ferocious, you’re going to get your chance!
In the title, you were on a ship that crashed upon a mysterious island full of dinosaurs and other threats!
There’s something very odd about this island outside of its “wildlife,” and you’ll need to go deeper and deeper into the island’s core to find out what! But with so much danger around you, can you survive it all?
#30 SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada
Why is it that the future is always a place where bad things happen, and we have to endure the monsters that pop up? Is it too much to ask for a nice and semi-peaceful place to live?
Apparently so, because in Synduality: Echo of Ada, humanity has been mostly eradicated thanks to a poisonous rain that killed much of the population. To flee this poison, the remaining groups went underground, but life isn’t easy there either.
Enter two Drifters about to stumble into something that could change their whole world. But can they do what they want before the monstrous Enders get them first?
#29 Earth From Another Sun
Who hasn’t wanted to affect the galaxy simply by the choices that they’ve made? That’s what we thought. In Earth From Another Sun, you’ll have a chance to enter a galaxy ripe for the taking. But how you “take it” is entirely up to you.
You can choose the “simple path” and just build up a massive military force so you can dominate your way through everything, or you can try to do these the more economical way and rule through wits and tons of cash.
The best part? You can play with your friends and work to take on the galaxy together!
#28 Asket
Welcome to the “Dead City.” We hope you enjoy your stay here. You won’t, but we still hope you will. In this place, life used to be abundant, and then everything changed. Monsters soon sprouted up, and people started to change. Now, you are trapped within this city, and you must fight off the many things within it.
Do you have it within you to outlast the anomalies and terrors you’ll find? You’ll need to use an assortment of weapons to get the job done, so don’t be afraid to go all out.
This game was made by one person, so it’ll be fun to see their ideas in action.
#27 Atomfall
Not all post-apocalyptic games are meant to be “dark and depressing.” Some are honestly meant to be looks into how certain areas would change when a certain kind of event befalls them. For example, in Atomfall, you’ll see what would happen to Great Britain if history had changed a little bit and a nuclear disaster had been averted in our world…actually went ahead and caused serious changes to the landscape and its people.
You’ll start the game five years after the disaster, meaning that you’ll have to find out what’s going on while you’re trying to survive. With rival groups, monsters, and other surprises awaiting you, this won’t be an easy thing.
#26 Exoborne
So, we just showed you a post-apocalyptic world where a nuclear disaster stirred things up. So now, why don’t we show you a post-apocalyptic world where it’s the weather you have to fear? In Exoborne, you’ll be part of a world where the weather got so extreme that it tore up the United States, and trying to survive here is about having the right weapons and supplies to make it to the next day.
You are part a group who is trying to make it through in this place, and that means going up against numerous factions to get more materials so you can endure the terrors that are all around you.
#25 Terminator: Survivors
Judgment Day may be inevitable, but survival is something that you have to put in your own hands. In Terminator: Survivors, you’ll be the head of a group of people who were able to survive the nuclear devastation that Skynet caused. With the Terminators up and about, seeking all humans so that they can be killed, you’ll have to be smart about every move you take, while also trying to do right by the group in your care.
You’ll travel through this new wasteland of a world to try and get weapons, supplies, and shelter. But the question remains, can one live in a world where monsters made of metal are relentlessly hunting you down?
#24 Mafia: The Old Country
While we don’t know too much about Mafia: The Old Country, including the gameplay that the title will have, we can reflect on the previous games in the franchise to highlight what is likely coming.
What we do know about the title is it’ll be set in Italy, long before the gangs of yore and lore were able to crossover into the “New World.” That means you’ll be there at the beginning when some of the legendary crime families were born and had to deal with their rivals the old-fashioned way.
You’ll likely start as a low-ranking member of a family and work your way up through it. So, be ready to do what you need to for the family.
#23 Boundary (PS5)
Here’s a game that’s interesting to talk about because of how it was received on Steam when it first came out. Boundary puts you out into space and asks you to complete tasks while also dealing with bullets flying right by you! That’s right, this is a space shooter game that has you being fully geared up astronauts!
You’ll use what precious little movement you have to try and get into better positions to do jobs and take out foes. It’s easily one of the most unique shooter games you’ll ever see, and it’ll be interesting to see just what it does on PS5.
#22 Industria 2
Have you ever felt stuck before? If so, you can sympathize with Nora’s plight. She spent her life trying to build something special, only for the AI she helped create to go nuts and try to take over. While Nora was able to defeat it, it came at the cost of sending her to a parallel universe. Fun times! In Industria 2, we catch up with Nora in that universe and find that she’s almost made a way home.
However, that dang AI gets to her just before she can leave, and now, she’ll have to fight and puzzle-solve her way back home. Help a woman out, people!
#21 Decadent
Meet John Lorn, a guy who has more than a few problems to deal with. For example, he survived World War I only to get wrapped up in some supernatural experiences, and now he has a parasite in his head. Yeah, basic stuff. Anyway, knowing that things will get worse, he goes on one last adventure to Antarctica in an attempt to find a lost expedition.
However, in doing so, he now opens up a floodgate by having to deal with monsters, the parasite in his head, and the fact that he’s slowly losing his sanity. You’d think that shooting a weapon wouldn’t be enough to solve things, and yet, that’s what you’ll do quite a bit here.
#20 Mouse: P.I. for Hire
Don’t panic because of the image that you just saw. Mouse: P.I. for Hire is intentionally a game that puts itself in the “rubber hose cartoon” style of decades past. That’s one of the things that helps separate this shooter from the others on this list, not to mention numerous other games in general.
Anyway, in the game, you’ll play a P.I. who has to go up against numerous shady characters to help someone in need. Everything about the game is animated to feel like an old-school cartoon, just with some extra violence tacked onto it.
If you’re feeling the need for some nostalgia, this is the game for you.
#19 Killer Bean
Here’s a game we honestly can’t believe exists, and yet, Killer Bean does exist, and it’s actually aiming to be a title that is far deeper than you might think. Initially, it starts out as your “typical story” about a character named Bean, who was an assassin until they were ultimately betrayed by those whom he worked for. Naturally, they want revenge and will use all sorts of weapons to get that revenge.
The fun part is that every time you restart the game, the story will be different in terms of locations, ally characters, enemies, and so on. It’ll be fresh every time, making it almost endlessly replayable.
#18 Projekt Z: Beyond Order
Zombie games are easily one of the best uses of the shooter genre, because who doesn’t love to shoot up zombies? In Projekt Z: Beyond Order, you’ll find yourself in the period of World War II. You and your friends will be on an island that’s infested with zombies, and you need to deal with them.
Where things take a fun turn is that you can customize both your character and their weapons so that they can be an unstoppable killing machine. The more supplies and blueprints you get, the better weapons you’ll receive.
Plus, with co-op play, you can tailor your squad to be truly unstoppable.
#17 Hunger
Alternate histories never go the way of humanity, as we always think of new and interesting ways to screw things up or become victims of things beyond our control. In Hunger, you’ll take part in a version of history where a massive plague wiped out most of Europe and, just as bad, created monsters that now inhabit the land.
You are one of the survivors who is brave enough to go see what lies beyond these cursed lands to see if you can make something better for those who still live. Just remember, there are many evil things out there, so come loaded for bear so you can take them out!
#16 Defect
Welcome to the last city that humanity is able to live in! If you look around you’ll see deadly factions that are trying to take power for themselves, and everything is governed by an AI that doesn’t care about people in the slightest, and uses all kinds of methods to keep its grip on the city.
So, where do you belong in this place? That’s up to you to decide. You’ll pick a side in the growing unrest in this world and see where it takes you. Will you side with the AI, or one of the other factions bent on control? Or, will you fight for freedom?
#15 Out of Action
We’ll talk about this game in a sec, but we want to give a shoutout to developer DokuGames for taking to Kickstarter to ensure their title got funded. It worked, and now this is something you can look forward to in 2025.
As for what Out of Action, they define it as a “Cyberpunk PVP FPS.” One that has both cyberpunk and anime vibes, oh, and lots of violence. Oh, and don’t worry, there’s an offline mode that you can use to take things on solo before jumping back into the multiplayer.
With lots of action, bullet-time elements, and so on, this should be a deep shooter adventure.
#14 Abyssus
What would you do if you found a lost underwater civilization that you could openly explore? Would you go into it, even if you didn’t know the risks? Well, in Abyssus, that’s exactly what you’re asked to do. The game puts you as a “brinepunk engineer” who uncovers such a civilization and is tasked with learning more about it.
However, once you go in, you find yourself trapped, and then you realize that it’s not as abandoned as you once thought. Oops. You’ll have to fight your way through this place, using all sorts of wild weapons, all in the hopes of getting out alive.
#13 Sand
Here’s another take on alternate history, but with a much grander scale and twist. In this case, humanity got into space FAR earlier than you’d expect, and the empires from Earth are wanting you and others to go to a planet called Sophie to see if you can unearth some treasures that were lost there when a certain empire fell.
So, where’s the shooter element here? That would be in the fact that you’re not the only ones looking for said treasure, and in this PVPVE game, you’ll have to battle other treasure hunters and threats to get the loot and then seek out the next treasure!
#12 EVE: Vanguard
If you’ve been a part of this gaming universe for a while, you know that there’s plenty of quality within it. So, when you hear that the universe is doing multiple spinoffs, you’ll likely want to know exactly what those entail. In EVE: Vanguard, for example, you’re not playing the leader of a global empire or rebellion. Instead, you’re taking on the role of a Warclone.
These are machines designed to go to planets and liberate them for their masters. That isn’t always easy, as there are plenty of threats to go around, but with your skills and abilities, you can claim a big victory for your masters and fellow Warclones.
#11 Den of Wolves
Not all shooter games have to revolve solely around shooting. We’ve already proven that to you with numerous games on this list, and Den of Wolves is another one of that style. In it, you’ll not be soldiers, but thieves. Ones who live in an incredibly advanced city with numerous corporations vying to get an edge over their competitors by any means necessary.
That’s where you come in. You’ll get to take on numerous jobs and have to pick the perfect squad to take them on. You still have the option to shoot your way to victory at times, but don’t be afraid to get more nuanced to get the job done.
#10 ExeKiller
When the world itself is broken, and you’re desperate to just get through it, you might turn to certain things and not ask questions about why you do them. That is the case with the man known as ExeKiller, who is a bounty hunter for a corporation in this post-apocalyptic world. He did his job without question for many years, and then, a certain truth puts everything into perspective and leads him down a much different path.
Where that path leads is up to you. You’ll work your way through this barren world and seek out what you need. Just know that there are plenty of fights awaiting you on this journey to truth.
#9 Splitgate 2
Splitgate 2 is the perfect kind of shooter title if you’re looking for an adrenaline rush and something fun to do with friends. It takes the idea of portal creation and turns it into a sport that fans of this game world can’t get enough of. You’ll start out as a 4v4 crew, trying to take down other teams that you come across within the sport.
However, the game lets you know that your ultimate goal is to be the best singular player in this event, which means you’ll have to “turn it up” if you want to get those accolades. Think you can make it happen?
#8 Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core
If you’ve loved what this franchise has done so far, by taking its original title and spinning it off into different elements, then you’ll want to try out Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core when it releases, because it does a similar thing here.
The main difference is that it has a roguelite element to it, which in this case means that the dwarves you’re commanding will be stripped down to basics with every mission you do. Then, as you go through the different areas, you’ll upgrade them and attempt to prep them for what’s coming.
So, with each mission being a mystery, and plenty of dangers ahead, do you have what it takes to survive?
#7 Battlefield 7
Yeah, here’s another game where it’s rather easy to understand that it’s a shooter title. In Battlefield 7, well, we don’t actually know much about the game yet. We know it’s been announced, and that EA is aiming to push it to “new heights,” which is what they say about every new game in the series, and that multiplayer will be important. That’s not a surprise either, as the games that came before sometimes revolved more around the multiplayer than anything else.
The real question is whether the quality will be visible at launch, or whether we’ll have yet another FPS that is buggy as heck upon release.
#6 The Outer Worlds 2
While The Outer Worlds 2 will undoubtedly have shooter elements, anyone who played the first game knows that it’s not JUST about shooting things. After all, this is an RPG made by Obsidian Entertainment, and that means you’ll have plenty of choices on what to do and not to do.
If you recall, the last game featured you as a colonist on a world overrun by corporate greed in an alternate future of Earth. You could do what you wanted in that game, and it would obviously affect things like the game’s ending.
So, more than likely, the sequel will have all of that and more. After all, sequels are meant to be bigger and better, right?
#5 Borderlands 4
It’s actually a bit mean to say that Borderlands 4 is “just a shooter,” as it’s so much more than that. In many ways, it’s a game that LOVES being a shooter so much that it gives players millions upon millions of gun options to choose from, all so that they can have the best weapons possible to deal with the numerous enemies they come across. Oh, and you’ll have plenty of enemies to deal with in this next game.
While we don’t know who those enemies are, we have heard from Gearbox Software that it’ll be a graver threat than anything you’ve witnessed before. Thus, once again, there ain’t no rest for the wicked.
#4 Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Snake? Snake…? SNAKE!!!!!!!!???? Sorry, we couldn’t resist. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the highly-anticipated third game in the beloved franchise that Hideo Kojima took over. In it, you’ll play Naked Snake, the original stealthiest man alive, as he heads into enemy territory to try and locate a key scientist and extract them out safely.
Things go wrong, though, as you soon encounter your old trainer, The Boss, and have to fight her, her subordinates, and the menacing threat who wants to turn the world into a warzone.
Use stealth to get through the area, and remember that violence can expose you if you’re not careful. Just because you have a gun, doesn’t mean you need to use it.
#3 Doom: The Dark Ages
Yeah, you know this series is a shooter; it’s what helped build FPS shooters in the first place! Seriously, did you not know that by this point? Jokes aside, Doom: The Dark Ages is a fun twist on the formula, as it’s not set in the far future where humanity keeps getting involved with the underworld. Instead, it takes place in the past, where we’ll uncover the official history of the Doomslayer! Oh yeah, this will be good.
Just as important, because of its setting, you’ll get all-new weapons to dice up enemies and show them why you’re the slayer you don’t mess with. Good times, everybody!
#2 Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Oh, how long have we been waiting for this? Oh, and how much are we hoping that Nintendo and Retro Studios don’t do another delay for this? In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the game that was first announced all the way back in 2017, Samus Aran is back and she’ll be fighting old and new foes on her never-ending journey to save the galaxy.
True to the games that came before, the title will put you within Samus’s helmet, allowing you to see things from her perspective and react in kind. With your trusted arm canon and numerous other weapons at your beck and call, you’ll send those Space Pirates packing in no time flat.
#1 Grand Theft Auto VI
Easily one of the most anticipated games of 2025, regardless of the genre you put it in, Grand Theft Auto VI will take fans to a modern version of Liberty City and give you two new protagonists to have “fun” with. By “fun,” we mean tearing up a city in an attempt to make your lives as great as you want. Just remember, you have to have trust with your partner.
We all know that Rockstar Games will deliver an awesome experience and bring the city to life in such a way that you’ll never truly run out of things to do. Thus, you can see why so many people are excited about this.
