Dragon’s Dogma 2: How To Farm EXP Early

March 22, 2024 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Level up faster with three dirty tricks in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

You can’t explore much in Dragon’s Dogma 2 before leveling up — and farming EXP early isn’t exactly easy, even if you have a full team of Pawns. For most of the game, simply running from one destination to the next is plenty to earn all the EXP you need, level up your Main Pawn, and take on tougher monsters. But if you’re really feeling under leveled, here are three simple methods you can use to earn a lot of EXP without a lot of effort.

Method #1: Killing Big Monsters With Oxcart Escorts

Early in the game, powerful monsters like Cyclops, Ogres and Minotaurs are especially tough. If you’re looking for an easy way to kill and farm them, you can get help from a retinue of Oxcart guards. Use the Oxcart Station in Melve and Vernworth — board and then doze off. About 50% or more of the time, a Cyclops will spawn and raid your cart. This trip only costs 100 g, so you’ll easily earn back your losses as you hunt Cyclops with eight of more NPCs.

Method #2: Doing Main Story Quests

Weirdly, main story quests in the early game are actually some of the easiest in the game. Most main quests don’t actually require you to kill giant monsters — or even fight anything. Completing these quests is usually very straightforward, and you’ll earn lots of them while exploring Vernworth. Complete as many quests you can for Captain Brant before attending the Coronation. Just do everything and you’ll be gaining lots of levels for doing very little actual fighting.

Method #3: Killing A Dragon

If you want to earn a huge pile of EXP, a free Wakestone, and a pile of useful Wyrmslife currency you’ll need for much later in the game, then travel to the Ancient Battleground to the north of Checkpoint Rest Town.

Climb the castle ramparts and use one of the two giant ballistas to shoot the dragon. This deals massive, massive damage. When the dragon comes for you, retreat and use the smaller ballista on the west path near the campfire. Lure the dragon far away, then run all the way back to the castle, get on the giant ballista and blow away your Dragon. Enjoy a huge boost of EXP.

And that’s all it takes! Dragons drop huge EXP, and collecting all that Wyrmslife is worth it. You’ll find a shrine as you progress the story that unlocks incredibly powerful items. Don’t miss out!
