Dragon’s Dogma 2: Best Weapons To Get Early

March 22, 2024 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Take a STAB at finding our favorite early weapons.

A better weapon makes all the difference in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Your level is important, but your weapon is what really matters — a stronger weapon is the difference between a dead giant monster and a dead Arisen. If you want to get some great weapons early in the game, you’ll need to scrounge all over the nation of Vermund. And some of the best weapons are totally free. But you’ll have to delve into some dangerous areas to get them. Here’s where you’ll want to go to get some of the best weapons in the early game — some of these are easy to get, others are absolutely overpowered.

Best Weapon Locations | Early Game

Ironclad Staff (Mage): Find this useful upgrade for Mages right at the start of the game. From Melve, before going to Vernworth, travel north up to the mountain path. On the way up, you’ll encounter a quaint magical cottage called Eini’s House. Inside the bedroom, loot the chest to get the Ironclad Staff.

Peltflayers (Thief): Another early weapon that’s in a far more dangerous location. Near the starting town of Melve, follow the road northeast of Borderwatch Outpost. The path leads to the Waterfall Cave. Beware the powerful Chimera inside, and don’t open the second-floor chest in the magical room or you’ll have to fight a Lich. Get to the upper floor with the magical library, then look for a side-path. You’ll find a chest with these daggers.

Myfyr (Archer): An extremely useful bow is located in the Forgotten Tunnel. North of Trevo Mines, you’ll reach the Malachite Forest, where the Sacred Arbor is hidden in the northwest. Take the branching road west before the Sacred Arbor to find a dungeon called the Forgotten Tunnel. The bow is located inside.

Steeled Virtue (Fighter): A powerful sword, this is unlocked for completing quests for Captain Brant in Vernworth. But there’s a catch. You’ll need to complete the ‘A Place to Call Home’ quest by renting the NPC Mildred’s house in the Capital. Talk to Mildred, then wait a week. After she returns from vacation, she’ll sell you the house for 20,000 g. Buy it and friendly characters will deliver mail to your house. One of those characters is Brant, and his special sword is incredibly good — and really easy to miss.

Black Matter (Warrior): The massive Black Matter Hammer is one of the best weapons in the early game, and you’ll find it far west of Vernworth in the Ancient Battleground. Climb up to the upper level in the center of the castle and defeat the Cyclops guarding a chest in the open field. The Cyclops shouldn’t be a problem, but the Dragon outside is. Run right past the Dragon and hope it doesn’t see you.

Infernal Edge (Mystic Spearhand): Another incredibly strong weapon that’ll last far into the game. Get this unique weapon from the Ancient Battleground. To get it, talk to an NPC on the east path leading into the Ancient Battleground. This begins the quest ‘Tolled To Rest’ for Oskar. Help him reach the center of the castle and he’ll give you a key. Backtrack down the same hallway and smash the boxes to unlock a treasure room with this weapon.

To actually use this weapon, you’ll need to restore Harve Village. Talk to the NPC in the Coastal Hut to unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation.

And those are some of our favorite weapons early in Dragon’s Dogma 2! The first three were near the start, but the last three are all absolutely overpowered weapons you’ll be able to use well into the later parts of the game. Don’t forget to enhance your gear and enjoy weapons that can kill much tougher monsters.
