Dredge: How To Deal With The Sea Monster At The Stellar Basin

Dredge is a game full of mystery with a sprinkling of horror to keep you on your toes. Of course, you can just spend countless hours fishing in relative safety, but the real goal is to uncover every secret and stare into the unknown and demand answers. In pursuit of this, you will eventually make your way to the Stellar Basin – easily the most dangerous place in the early parts of Dredge.

This is for two reasons. Firstly, the path to get here is fraught with peril. Large sea creatures, living tornados, and general madness will all start to take their toll, and if you aren’t prepared (or quick on the wheel) you will likely find yourself at the bottom of the ocean. Secondly, there is a giant tentacle monster that takes up the majority of the Stellar Basin, and it wants to kill you.

Beware The Stellar Basin

This giant tentacle monster is a real threat. A threat so significant, you can’t operate here. Fishing is dangerous to the point of being impossible, and all the good fish are, naturally, spawning directly on top of the monster itself. If you even attempt to approach this thing, your vision will get all warped and then you will be torn apart. Not a great start.

Not only that, there is a giant shark that will hound you if you linger too long in the Basin. This makes fishing – even on the outskirts of the monster – a near-impossible task. Not without risking your ship and all of its cargo. Thankfully, you can disable both of these monsters if you know what to do.

Disabling The Stellar Basin Monsters

The trick is the Research Station, however, it is currently out of order. To fix it and get it operational, you need to complete a Pursuit. Head to the Old Fortress and talk to the Research Assistant. She will give you some clues on how to distract the monster, but you can’t do anything with that information – yet.

Complete her Pursuit and she will eventually hand you a Repulsion Machine. We already have a guide on how to complete her Pursuit, so be sure to check that out.

Once you’ve done this, you will be given a Repulsion Machine. This is the key to solving your monster problem. Head back to the Research Station, install the Machine, and bam, you are good to go.

The machine will only work for a few hours at a time, so you will have to be quick if you want to dredge up relics and catch some rare fish. Thankfully, you can reactivate the machine for free by returning to the research station.

Rewards For Using The Repulsion Machine

There are two main reasons you want to do all of this. Firstly, you can now access the hidden Relic at the centre of the Basin for the Collector. Secondly, you can also catch the remaining fish for the Research Assistant at the Old Fortress. You will need to have access to an Abyssal Rod, so be sure to track down some Research Parts to get that unlocked ASAP.

That’s all we have on Dredge for now. Be sure to check out our other Guides and Walkthroughs for more Dredge content. Beware of the terrors hiding in the deep.
