Dredge: How To Get Explosives | Hermitage Quest Guide

Everything you need to know to unlock Explosives in Dredge.

Dredge is a game filled with mysteries – things to find, uncover, or simply blow up. More often than not, your starting equipment is not enough to fully dive into the depths of Dredge’s mechanics, so if you want to progress, you are going to have to find new people and in turn, get new gear.

One of the earliest upgrades you can acquire is the humble explosive. These allow you to clear rocks and access previously blocked-off locations in the world. Getting explosives is easier said than done, however, and it’s certainly not signposted without a bit of investigating.

How To Clear Rocks In Dredge

Right from the get-go, some rocks can be cleared near Greater Marrow. These rocks only block off a small pool of water, but there could be some interesting fish locked behind this jagged wall. The more you explore, the more of these rock blocks you will discover. To clear them, you need explosives.

Unfortunately, Explosives are locked behind a quest that is not immediately obvious to start but is rather straightforward to complete. You will need to head to the Gale Cliffs, which can be found to the South East of Greater Marrow.

Completing The Hermitage Quest

The Hermitage quest is the quest you are looking for, and to start it, you need to talk to a man who is stranded in some ruins at the Gale Cliffs. Check your map to see where all the docks are – there is Ingfell, the Rusty Docks, and the Ruins. The Ruins are the south-most dock for reference.

The bloke will explain that his brother is a whaler in Ingfell and that they had a bit of a falling out in their youth. He stole the family crest, and his brother never forgave him. The crest has since been lost, and since he wants to return to Ingfell, he needs that crest as a peace offering.

If you head to Ingfell, you will learn that the brother used to make explosives, although he doesn’t do that anymore. If you want to coax him into returning to bomb-making, you are going to have to complete his brother’s quest – not that he tells you that.

Once you have the Hermitage quest, check your map. It will be marked with a red ‘X’, which indicates where you need to go to find the Crest. Make your way there, being careful not to collide with any rocks or walls. We recommend doing this during the day to make this far easier.

Once at the location, look for the golden glow, dredge it up from the depths of the ocean, and return to the Ruins to continue the quest.

Getting Explosives

Finally, you will be tasked with blowing up some rocks. Activate the preset explosive, blow up the rocks, and return to Ingfell to complete the quest once and for all. This will reward you with some explosives that you can use to clear rocks at will. These are consumables, however, so don’t go wasting them. If you need more, once this quest is completed Merchants will start to sell them for a fair price. It’s always a good idea to pack a few explosives when exploring new areas, so stock up.

That’s all we have on Dredge for now. Be sure to check out our other Guides and Lists from more Dredge content.
