Minecraft, at its core, is a very basic video game. Players mine for resources, maintain their character’s health, and build their own world. Each new game brings a brand new randomly generated world that acts as an open canvas for the player to alter and change to their liking and since the game first released back in 2011, more and more gamers are added to the Minecraft fan base. Mojang certainly created something special with Minecraft but we’re constantly wowed by the players who take the tools within the game to build truly wonderful creations.
At first, you may be building simple square homes but after some time and practice, that home could turn into a metropolis, filled with various buildings, marketplaces, skyscrapers, parks, and more. Whether you’re a veteran player or starting up Minecraft for the first time, here are some building ideas to get you started on your next masterpiece. Share some of your own Minecraft creations by dropping a comment down below.
Volleyball Court
Courts and fields are easy to replicate in Minecraft and it takes very little work to build them if you’re looking to showcase something basic at the start. Take for example a volleyball court which only requires sand, redstone wire, Nether brick fencing, and lastly iron bars. Determine how big you would like the court to be and then fill your outline with sand while marking the middle point with two Nether brick fence posts.
By using iron bars to connect both points from the posts, you’ll find yourself with a pretty nice looking net. Lastly, the field can be marked with redstone wire. This court makes a huge improvement outside of your outside home décor but we bet you could take this basic design and further build onto it.
Floor Patterns
If you’ve ever built a building with Minecraft you may have easily overlooked one aspect of the design. You’ve likely made the exterior remarkable, added décor through the house and even took care of the landscaping but did you remember to make those fine little details in your flooring?
Don’t make a building bland by skipping out the interior floor designs. Instead, make each room pop with a different floor pattern and there are plenty of designs to choose from. Go with hardwood flooring by mix and matching the different wooden blocks available in the inventory or make a room pop with colored wool’s, it’s simple, fun and best of all, it makes your rooms stand out just a bit more.
Floating Islands
Take your designs from the ground level and launch them into the skies above. Start building a variety of islands in the skies to replicate a fun filled floating island. You can create islands that will only fit your home or make a giant landscape filled with mountains, rivers, ponds, animals, caverns, and more. We’ve seen all sorts of crazy and unique ideas when it comes to floating islands within Minecraft such as gamers connecting various islands with bridges or makeshift chains.
You can even create a giant waterfall to swim up to your island or safely travel down to the ground. If you’re feeling extra creative then design your island to resemble something entirely different like a giant animal carrying your island on its back.
Recreate Your Favorite Show or Film Locations
How about recreating some of your favorite buildings or locations from television shows. We’ve seen plenty of awesome media building recreations such as the Dunder Mifflin building from The Office or the famous cartoon home of The Simpsons. Start out by sketching your desired home, match the floor plan, décor, and the color scheme to create your desired building that much easier within the game. There’s a good chance that someone else may have already completed a build and published it online. Take a virtual walkthrough and study on how other players were able to reproduce the building.
Home Theater
Need ideas for your dream mansion build? Make sure to toss in a sick home theater with exclusive seating, posters, ambient lighting and, of course, the big screen. There are all sorts of different combinations and ideas on how to build a theater and it’s all up to your particular taste. Although this IMAX build may top the cake as the builder creatively decided to showcase the actual screen by revealing the outdoor scenery. Can you top this build?
Igloo
If you have a particular world that features an arctic region then make good use out of the location. Start constructing small villages of igloos just by using blocks of ice, snow or white wool. On the outside the igloo could look completely normal but once a player enters, you can create your own homey interior with a hardwood walls and flooring. Take things one step further by adjusting the scenery outside of the igloo or its location in general, you’re only limited by your imagination.
Library
Libraries are sometimes magnificent in design. Rows and rows of endless books all holding brilliant stories or information passed down from generations. It’s only fitting that your city or even home should have a library and it’s best to keep the library stocked with novels that are complimented with an elegant interior design. I personally enjoy the lavish corridors and pillars holding up several stories within grand old libraries. Make your Minecraft library a beautiful hub that will attract players to explore the building even if you can’t check out the physical books.
Tree House
Did you own a tree house growing up? Why not relive those old childhood dreams by creating a magnificent tree house mansion. Construct a giant tree using saplings and bone meal before designing your ultimate dream tree house. Make a full house within the tree or go for a more standard looking tree house. Perhaps you’ll want to add several levels, rooms, hang platforms off tree limbs or even construct bridges to connect other tree houses within a massive forest.
Pixel Art
Minecraft makes a perfect medium to create pixel art. Essentially it’s just like creating pixel art in a really massive image editor, but instead of a lined grid, you’ll simply make a three-dimensional outline. From there you’ll choose the different colored wool and begin stacking away. Because pixel art goes so well within the game world of Minecraft, you can use any tutorial or pixel art guideline to create the desired image.
Ships
Enjoy sailing and roaming across the open seas then you may enjoy building a ship or two, after all, you won’t want to leave your lakes looking bare. Go for a giant ocean liner, an old ragged pirate ship searching for lost treasure, an advanced battleship, even a cruise ship filled with rooms and entertainment on board. Why stop there? By using glass, you can replicate a giant ship within a bottle.
