Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard's entry into the MOBA genre, popularized by League of Legends and DOTA 2, which rank among two of the hottest online games currently around.
Blizzard leverages three of its most popular franchises, including Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo, and uses its characters to populate the roster of Heroes of the Storm, with a few unique heroes that play and feel unlike anything else out there.
Since going live last year, the free-to-play game has captured the attention of many of the studio's fans, and continues to grow with the release of new battlegrounds, heroes, and skins.
It's Simple
If you aren't already a player of DOTA 2 or League of Legends and feel completely out of your depth when it comes to the MOBA genre, Heroes of the Storm can be a good entry point with its familiar heroes and mild difficulty curve. Whereas other games require plenty of time investment to learn the ins-and-outs of their mechanics, Heroes tries to keep things simple.
There's no creep score, for starters, so there's little need to micromanage your hero outside of encounters against enemy heroes. There's no inventory system so you won't have to worry about building items, either.
Iconic Characters
Blizzard has drawn a wide selection of characters from its three great franchises, so you'll be able to head into battle as Thrall, Jim Raynor or even Diablo or any of your other favorite characters.
Fast Paced
Matches in Heroes of the Storm don't take long. They're designed to be fast paced and played under ten minutes so you can head back into battle again and again without having to invest too much time into a single match.
Battleground Variety
One of the things absolutely unique to Heroes of the Storm is its wide variety of maps, each of which has its own mechanic for players to battle over. In the Battlefield of Eternity, two angels battle each other in the center of the map and the one who survives will accompany his side into battle, razing towers and other stationary defenses as he pushes forward. In Blackheart's Bay, players collect gold doubloons to pay the ghost pirate Blackheart to launch a volley of cannonballs at the enemy's defenses.
Free to Play
It costs money to buy new heroes and change their skins, but the game is, at its heart, free to play. You can test out a new rotation of characters each week and decide what you like best to actually spend money on.
