It’s easy to get all the way through The Quarry and still have surprisingly little information about what’s just happened. If you want to figure out the mystery behind Hackett’s Quarry, you’ll need some proof.
There are 10 pieces of Evidence found throughout The Quarry, 1 per chapter, each of which provides some small piece of the overall picture. Here’s what to do and where to go to get them all, complete with major, unavoidable spoilers for the entirety of the game.

Collect All the Evidence in The Quarry
The primary benefit for finding evidence shows up during the closing credits. The more evidence you’ve found, regardless of who does and does not survive the game’s events, the less likely it is that the counselors themselves are blamed for what happened at Hackett’s Quarry. If you end the game with 5 evidence or less, the whole thing is written off as a murder spree by “psycho teens”; with 7 or higher, there’s hard proof in circulation and the counselors aren’t blamed for what’s happened.
Each piece of evidence also leads to a new podcast segment aired during the credits, as the hosts of Bizarre Yet Bonafide run a new episode based on the Hackett’s Quarry incident.
When you find a single piece of evidence, you unlock the trophy/achievement The Truth is Out There. Going on to collect all 10 pieces of evidence in a single run unlocks the trophy/achievement Conspiracy Theorist.
In addition, a lot of the evidence counts as a match for the purpose of unlocking more information for various clues. The first time that happens, you’ll get the It’s All Coming Together trophy/achievement.
I really can’t stress this enough: the discussion of where to go and how to find all the evidence is naturally going to involve a lot of major spoilers. You’re better off using this guide after you’ve had the chance to clear The Quarry at least once.
Like many of the other collectibles in The Quarry, you aren’t guaranteed to get a shot at every piece of evidence. If a character happens to be dead during a chapter where they’d otherwise be playable, then you’ve missed your window. This is primarily an issue for Jacob, who can die in a couple of really stupid ways before Chapter 6.
Even if everyone lives, or at least lives for long enough, it’s also possible to make a few decisions that could keep you from finding or creating some of the evidence. In order to get a shot at Conspiracy Theorist, make the following choices on your trip through the game:
- Chapter 1, Jacob: take the van’s rotor arm.
- Chapter 3, Jacob: dive in after the rotor arm and pick “Grab,” then “Disentangle.”
- Chapter 4, Ryan: don’t fire the shotgun into the bushes.
- Chapter 4, Emma: search the bags before you open the trap door, then use the taser first.
- Chapter 7, Laura: after she bandages herself, don’t go right to sleep.
- Chapter 10, Kaitlyn: either keep exploring the lodge after you examine the old painting on the back of the chimney, or don’t interact with it at all until you’ve swept the whole building.
#1: Empty Vial
This is the only piece of evidence that you have two separate chances at collecting. It can be found by inspecting the carving on the side of the big tree in the camp cabins area, either as Abigail in Chapter 1 or Dylan in Chapter 5.
#2: Torn Bags
As Emma, in Chapter 2, investigate the two backpacks on the floor in the general store’s Staff Only area.
#3: Bloated Corpse
This is arguably the most difficult piece of evidence to find, because it requires you to make a couple of specific decisions, one of which was two full chapters prior to this.
As Jacob in Chapter 1, opt to steal the rotor arm out of the van rather than tearing its fuel line.
Later, in Chapter 3, when Jacob drops the rotor arm at the boathouse dock, opt to dive in after it rather than going to help Abi. When you’re given the chance, grab for it.
Jacob will end up face-to-face with the dead guy in the lake, which unlocks this evidence.
I have not yet confirmed that Jacob can actually die here, but just to be safe, pick Detangle over Pull in the subsequent choice.
Finding the Bloated Corpse unlocks a bit of dialogue in Chapter 4 where he mentions it to Ryan and Kaitlyn. That in turn opens up a few new conversations over the rest of the game.
#4: Attack Photo
Like the previous piece of evidence, you have to make some specific decisions in order to find this.
As Emma, when you reach the island treehouse in Chapter 4, opt to check out the bags on the floor before you open the trap door.
When the monster jumps down, choose the taser over the bear spray, then pick the “Take photo?” interrupt.
This buys Emma a little more time to run, and creates the Attack Photo on her way out the door.
#5: Claw Marks
As Dylan in Chapter 5, before you enter the radio hut, check out the scratches on the wall next to the stairs, behind the air-conditioning unit.
(Unconfirmed: this may also require you to have peeked into the radio hut’s window as Abigail in Chapter 1.)
#6: Memory Card
When you take control of Jacob at the start of Chapter 6, climb up onto the wooden bridge. There are three interaction points up here: the first one is a look over the edge, and the second involves a footprint. The third, which is found straight down the bridge from the second, is a discarded camera.
Pick it up and Jacob will pull out its memory card, then… jam it into his waistband? Probably best not to think about it.
#7: Cease & Desist Letter
Once you escape from the prison cell in Chapter 7, go find Sheriff Hackett’s office, which is just up a short flight of stairs from the rest of the police station.
There’s a printer in the dark corner across from Hackett’s office door, with this letter on top of it. It appears Hackett is the kind of guy who needs a hard copy of everything.
If you’d like to read this letter in its entirety, you can examine it a second time once you’ve collected it.
#8: Scarred Flesh
As Laura in Chapter 8, at the top of the stairs in the quarry mines, look for this on the floor by the big central pillar. It’s on the closer side of the short bridge that leads to the exit.
#9: Kaylee’s Letter
In Chapter 9, after you get out of the dumbwaiter as Ryan, cross the room and open the small jewelry box next to the standing mirror.
It’s difficult to read what it says in-game, even if you do something like record the sequence in 4K and replay it frame-by-frame. Cough. As noted above, however, every piece of evidence you find is gone over in exhaustive detail by the ByB podcast during the closing credits, and that includes reading Kaylee’s Letter aloud.
#10: Trail Cam Footage
When Kaitlyn gets back to the lodge in Chapter 10, climb the stairs by the 2nd-floor classroom to reach one of the building’s two attics. When you check the cardboard box on the floor, it unlocks the final piece of evidence.
