Crash Bandicoot 4: All Crates & Hidden Gem Locations | 8-1: Out For Launch 100% Guide

Oct 14, 2020 Kevin Thielenhaus

One small step for Crash, one giant step for Bandicoot kind.

In Map 8 of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, Crash unlocks the awesome power of gravity-switching. The purple mask allows you to (almost) instantly swap between regular gravity and reversed gravity, sending Crash falling toward the ceiling. This power-up can make your head spin if you’re not careful, so don’t get too confused and try your best to 100% this space-based sci-fi level.

8-1: Out For Launch | All Crates & Hidden Gems

To earn 100% on a level, you need to find 80% of all Wumpa Fruit, die no more than 3 times, find the Hidden Gem, and find all crates. These challenges can be completed in any order. If you die more than 3 times while finding all the crates, you can return and earn the last gem later. All gems you’ve unlocked in a level stay unlocked in future replays.

36/189: All crates are found in the first section of the level to the first checkpoint.

  • Use the gravity power-up to smash all the crates on the ceiling.
  • OPTIONAL: I destroyed 1 Nitro crate on this starting path.
Look behind this pipe for the hidden gem.

Hidden Gem: Up the lift and near the first checkpoint, there’s a purple pipe to the left. Explore behind it to get the gem.

50/189: All the crates to the second checkpoint.

66/189: To the third checkpoint — and the crates to the left fight right.

71/189: 5 crates on the rail grinding sequence.

95/189: Fight to the fourth checkpoint.

102/189: All the crates on the fourth rail grinding sequence.

106/189: Continue to the fifth checkpoint at the start of the side-scrolling gravity power-up section.

[Bonus Room] 142/189: In the bonus room, you need to use gravity to clear all the crates. At the end, you’ll find a “!” block that makes 3 crates appear at the start.

  • To smash the single crate between the TNT and Nitro, jump and spin-attack — this only hits upper crates. Jump and wait until your top-half is aligned with the middle crate and you’ll only hit that one mid-air.

149/189: Smash more crates along the way to the end.

  • OPTIONAL: I destroyed 1 Nitro crate along the path.

153/189: 4 crates are found on the final rail grinding sequence.

189/189: Hit the Nitro detonator to clean up whatever is left.
