#4 Doom Eternal
Listen, Doom Eternal is still pretty new and we’re not going to spoil anything here but if you haven’t played Doom 2016 then you probably should move along for spoilers regarding that particular game. With that said, Doom Eternal gives players more of the same demon gnashing and skull-crushing action we’ve always loved from the franchise. It’s a brutal first-person shooter and while the Doom 2016 reboot was a massive success for id Software, this sequel is more of what you loved from that installment and then some.
Doom Eternal takes place after the events of Doom where the demonic invasion has hit Earth. Being the last man to stand for human civilization, Doom Slayer goes into battle once again. It’s full of action, demonic creatures sending their best against you while players blast their way through the evil scum. Again, we’re not going to spoil anything, but there are a few areas that you are taken to that’s not just on Earth. Furthermore, the gameplay is quite a bit enhanced and even at times even more difficult.
There’s less of just moving along to the next place to battle more demons as there are platforming areas to complete thrown into the mix. If you’re looking to give this game a shot, it’s available right now for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One Platforms. The Nintendo Switch should receive a port, but we haven’t seen a release date for the game yet. If you’d like to know even more about the game then give our Before You Buy episode a watch above. You’ll get some gameplay footage along with our initial thoughts on the title. Best of all, we keep our Before You Buys spoiler-free.
#3 Star Wars: Squadrons
There’s never an issue of having too many Star Wars games and some could argue that we are seeing less Star Wars games in general since EA obtained the right to develop games for the IP. Coming off the success of Star Wars Battlefront 2 and the most recent release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it looks like there is another title set to hit the market before 2021 arrives and that’s Star Wars: Squadrons. It looks like this game will be a bit smaller in scope than the previous two games mentioned, but those that enjoy the space combat games from the franchise may already be counting down the day for when this game hits the marketplace.
Star Wars: Squadrons will be taking place during the events of the cinematic Star Wars universe established so far. However, rather than retelling the same storyline fans may have already experience in the past, this installment tells a new storyline with new characters. EA did make a point to state that past familiar faces will make an appearance, but who and just for what reasons remains to be seen. For now, we know that this game is going to showcase both sides of the war, somewhat similar to how the narrative was handled in Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
The game is slated to hit the marketplace on October 2, 2020, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Of course, things could change but it doesn’t look like there is any worry over this title not making its release date. Furthermore, those of you who enjoy VR may also have some interest in this game as it supports VR headsets. It looks like both the PC and PlayStation VR headsets will be compatible with the game at launch.
