Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 20 Tips Absolute Beginners Need To Know

March 24, 2020 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Learn all about the easy life in Animal Crossing: New Horizon with these 20 tips for anyone that just doesn’t understand this series at all.

#11: Talk to your villagers as much as possible every day! Keep talking to them multiple times, and you might unlock some special events. Talking to your villagers might lead to activities and Nook Miles!

#12: Check your mail daily, and visit Tim Nook’s recycling container to collect free stuff. Items will only be available for a short time. Place as much furniture as you can in your house to increase your house score!

#13: You can dig up a hidden Bag of Bells every day. If you plant this bag of bells, you’ll grow a special bell tree!

#14: You’ll eventually get a museum to fill. That’s why you’re turning in fish / bugs for Tim Nook. Always turn in your first critter find. Lots of critters on your island are seasonal! So you don’t want to risk having to find creatures a second time.

#15: Struggling with fishing? Just don’t look at the screen while you’re fishing! Just listen for the fish taking the bait, then reel them in.

#16: Tarantulas appear at night — but they’re tricky to capture. Sneak up on them or they’ll bite you and knock you out. If you practice with the net, you can nab them mid-jump. They’re worth 1,000~ bells!

#17: The game is 100% real-time, so stores will close at night. To make your life easier, you can use the Drop Box to sell items at night, but you’ll only get 80% of the item’s value.

#18: You can save yourself time by pressing Left / Right on the D-Pad to quick select tools. You don’t have to open up your inventory to equip / unequip that all-important tools.

#19: If you get stung by bees, talk to villagers! One of them will provide you with a DIY crafting recipe. That will fix your stung face.

#20: Take your time and relax. This isn’t a game about grinding, it’s about kicking back and soaking in the sights. New Horizons is a gentle breeze, and you’re meant to keep playing for a very long time. Play a little bit every day to get the most out of your adventure!

And that’s it! Here’s hoping you enjoy your relaxing vacation to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
